I’ve learnt improvisation as a methodology from contemporary dance systematically—many thanks to my dance teacher.
Then I started to apply it in visual, then expanded into sound, and started from the simplest.
( When I was suggested to compose from the simplest notes, I flashed back to what my first design teacher told me: abandon colors, try black and white as the simplest first.)
All about basic variables and how to deal with the variables internally and externally. Currently, I still hold the view that two variables are enough to make something stand out.
Moreover, there should be a choice between conveying meaning and pioneering exploration. The former is what the most audience can be received, however, it generally won’t need too many pioneering techniques; however, the latter is so advanced that it generally cannot be understood. It’s impossible to have both; if there were, it wouldn’t be an impressive work.
Less is more.
